Overview

Jesus said the Psalms speak of Him. From the suffering servant of Psalm 22 to the victorious King of Psalm 110, we learn to read the church's oldest songbook with Christ at the center.

“Every lament ends somewhere — and in Christ, it ends at an empty tomb.”
Message Outline
  1. The Psalms are His prayer bookJesus prayed these words — in the temple, in the wilderness, and on the cross. When we pray them, we pray with Him.
  2. Suffering has a shapePsalm 22 moves from forsakenness to feast. The cross follows the same arc, and so does our discipleship.
  3. Sing what you believeTheology that cannot be sung will not survive suffering. The Psalms put doctrine in our mouths.
Take It Further

Read Psalm 22 · Luke 24:44–47 slowly this week, and ask two questions: what does this show me about God, and what does it ask of me? Then bring a friend next Sunday — the best sermons are the ones you talk about on the drive home.
