How It Started

A borrowed hall and an unborrowed conviction

In 2019, eight adults and eleven kids started meeting in a borrowed fellowship hall on the east side of Richardson. We had no building, no budget, and no illusions about either. What we had was a conviction: this city needed a church that would love it before it ever attended anything.

So we served first. Long before our first official Sunday, we packed weekend food bags for elementary schools, mowed lawns for single mothers, and showed up at city clean-up days in matching work gloves. People started asking who we were before we ever invited them to anything — and we liked it that way.

We served this city for a year before we ever invited it to church.

Today Lanternfield gathers hundreds every Sunday, runs a weekly food pantry, partners with three local nonprofits, and sends teams downtown every Tuesday night. The methods changed. The conviction never did: it's okay to not be okay, and God meets you where you are.

What We Believe
  • In the essential beliefs we have unity — one God, one Savior, one gospel.
  • In the non-essential beliefs we have liberty — room to differ without dividing.
  • In all our beliefs we maintain an attitude of love — truth never shouts here.

Sunday at Lanternfield

Come as you are. Leave different.

Coffee in the lobby, worship that means it, teaching you can use on Monday, and kids who beg to come back. Dress is come-as-you-are, the welcome team wears gold lanyards, and nobody will single you out — promise.
